Seated Neck Stretch
This is my go-to neck stretch for anyone who spends much of their day seated – at a desk, in a car or truck, regardless of the type of seat, you likely have some neck tension. With muscles surrounding the neck, turning, tilting, and balancing the head atop the shoulders, this stretch is easily adaptable to get the stretch where you need it the most.
Personally, I’m not a fan of neck rolls/circles. The constant change in direction means that as the muscles lengthen, they also must maintain a level of tension and stability. You also may consider stretching your neck while lying on your back where you can fully relax into a lengthened position.
Remember to breathe. Listen to your body and keep the stretch within your level of comfort.
Your neck is only one piece of the posture puzzle. It is also important to work on shoulder placement and often times opening the chest. Ideally, the curves of the spine should support the structures above at each level.
